Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra
North of the Arctic Circle you will find the world’s youngest and northernmost professional orchestra institution. Since its establishment in 2009, the organization has become one of Northern Norway’s largest and most active cultural institutions.
Each year, the orchestra puts on about 200 performances and concerts. The orchestra’s musicians alternate between different ensemble formats on a regular basis, which means that during a season you can experience everything from smaller chamber groups via sinfonietta and chamber orchestra to full symphony orchestra and opera productions.
When we combine the crew in Bodø and Tromsø you will meet our symphony orchestra, which can also be expanded as needed with freelance musicians from the north and south.
The conductor of the symphony orchestra is Christian Kluxen. An artist who is referred to in the international press as a conductor with great personal integrity, known for bringing in warmth and energy in the way he works, one who has a finely tuned musical flair and who can bring out distinctive nuances and contrasts in his interpretation of the works the orchestra plays.
Arctic Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra
The Arctic Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra is based in Tromsø and plays weekly concerts there.
Henning Kraggerud is the chamber orchestra’s artistic director. In addition to being a renowned violinist, violinist and composer, Kraggerud is also known for his virtuosity, creativity and strong communication ability, values that are central to his work in Arctic Philharmonic.
The strings in the Arctic Philharmonic have, together with Kraggerud, developed into one of the leading string orchestras, and in recent years have noted their energetic expression and sound, through the recordings of the Arctic Philharmonic, as well as national and international tours.
