9. Henningsvær Church: Steinway & Sons model C, 2017
After several years of good ticket sales, Lofoten International Chamber Music Festivalmade a financial profit after the festival in 2016. The board of the festival could more easily be surprised to discuss what this profit could be used for. At the same time, there was no grand piano in Henningsvær, where the festival is based every summer.
It did not take long before the idea of a own grand piano came up. The start-up of the Lofoten Piano Festival in 2014 also involved more relocations of grand pianos than usual. A separate grand piano at Henningsvær Church would solve several challenges. It was also wanted to make the church a permanent concert arena during the festival. But a new Steinway & Sons model D – then at a price of approx. 1.600.000,- there were no funds for.
The festival’s first grand piano
Also at this time, Trond Hellstrøm at Hellstrøm Pianoin Oslo had a newly renovated grand piano of the type Steinway & Sons model C standing. The instrument was built as early as 1890. Again, Christian Ihle Hadland was used as a consultant, and after an hour of testing, he could safely recommend us to buy the instrument. The price was set just under 400,000,-.
The newly purchased instrument was inaugurated during a separate concert in Henningsvær Church a week before the festival in 2017. After another record ticket sales (1.100.000,-) in 2017, the instrument was paid for in cash.
